Mörbylånga municipality is located in Southern Öland. It is a small municipality which is located near Kalmar, which is a bigger locality. There are fine beaches and pools and a lot of landscape, for example the Stora Alvaret, where you can stroll and see unusual vegetation.

Southern Öland's world heritage is located in Mörbylånga municipality. You can experience the beautiful and unique nature, rich avifauna, lively history and a lot of culture.

Housing

The biggest landlord is Mörbylånga Bostads AB, which has flats throughout the municipality. There are some private landlords as well.

Language groups in the locality

There are many people who speak a language other than Swedish in the Mörbylånga municipality: Dari, Persian, Arabic, Russian, Thai and English. The school organises mother tongue teaching when there are many children with the same language. Upon contact with authorities, we arrange a language interpreter either on phone or in person.

The Mörbylånga municipality has a lot of associations in several areas, for example sports and culture.

Second-hand shops are found in Mörbylånga, Färjestaden and Södra Möckleby.

The shop Netto is in Färjestaden. Coop is located in both Färjestaden and Mörbylånga. Ica is to be found in Färjestaden, Mörbylånga, Södra Möckleby and Grönhögen.

The tax office is located in Kalmar.

Food from different cultures can be bought in Norrliden, Kalmar.

Childcare

Mörbylånga municipality has preschools throughout the municipality.

The preschool has a separate curriculum, which specifies the goals that the preschool can strive towards.

The preschool works on the basis of each child's needs.

If you are interested in a public preschool or preschool, you must place your child in a queue.

If you are an asylum seeker and do not work or study, you have the right to send your child to the public preschool 15 hours a week. The public preschool is for children between the age of 3 and 5.

If you work or study, you have the right to send your child to preschool on the basis of your needs. Preschool is for children between the age of 1 and 5.

Open preschool

In the Färjestad Family Centre, there is an Open preschool for stay-at-home parents of children between the age of 0 to 5. You and your child get the opportunity to be in an educational environment where your child can play and learn new things and you can meet other parents. Parents can also receive support both pedagogically and socially.

Compulsory schools and upper secondary schools

There are eight primary and lower secondary schools from Glömminge in the north to Southern Möckleby in the south. We work toward children's safety and good academic achievement among them.

We have good preparatory classes for the newly arrived students.

The municipal 7-9 school is located in Mörbylånga. The Öland free school is a private 7-9 school in Färjestaden.

Upper secondary school

The Mörbylånga municipality students go to the upper secondary school in Kalmar and are a part of the upper secondary school union.

Education opportunities

Adult education

Kalmar offers good opportunities for adult education at primary, upper secondary and university levels. Here, there is Komvux (adult education) and vocational training. Linne university is also located in Kalmar.

SFI – Swedish for Immigrants

SFI-education is provided in Mörbylånga.

Health and medical care

If you need healthcare, you can first go to the healthcare centre. You can find them in Färjestaden and Mörbylånga.

Maternity clinic and children's clinic are located in the family centre in Färjestaden.

Interpreter assistance

For important meetings, an interpreter is available.

Public transport

The Kalmar County Service (KLT) has a bus network in major parts of the municipality. You can reach Kalmar and Borgholm by bus.

From Kalmar, you can take a direct train to Malmö/Copenhagen. To travel to Stockholm, you need to change trains at Alvesta.

The Kalmar airport operates domestic and international flights.

Work and entrepreneurship

Mörbylånga municipality is the biggest employer. There are also many small and big companies in the municipality in, among others, food production, and trade and manufacturing. Industry and trade have been strongly influenced by the tourism industry and proximity to Kalmar. Each year, several tourists visit Öland, thus the municpality offers plenty of commerce, various forms of tourist facilities as well as artists and craftsmen.
