The plateau hill Kinnekulle is the pride of the municipality, and is also known as “the flowering mountain”.
Götene municipality is located in Västra Götaland along the south-eastern banks of Lake Vänern, and consists of the population centres Götene, Hällekis, Källby and Lundsbrunn. Götene municipality has around 1,400 companies and 190 active associations.

If you book an appointment with Försäkringskassan, they will come to Götene from their nearest office in Lidköping. You can speak to Arbetsförmedlingen via computer – their office is in Skara. Compulsory schools and upper secondary schools
Götene has schools for children aged between 6 and 15 years. Hällekis, Källby and Lundsbrunn have schools for children aged between 6 and 12 years. Upper secondary schools are available in the towns around Götene. Most attend upper secondary school in Lidköping or Skara.
Götene municipality collaborates with Lidköping municipality for Swedish for Immigrants (SfI) and adult education. These take place at Campus Lidköping, which also offers certain further education programmes. The nearest university is in Skövde.
Health and medical care
The Centrum house in Götene has two medical centres, Närhälsan medical centre and Kinnekullehälsan medical centre. There is also an ante-natal clinic, child healthcare clinic and dental clinic here. The nearest hospital with an accident and emergency department are in Skövde and Lidköping.

Götene municipality lies along the E20 between Mariestad and Skara. National road 44 takes you from Götene to Lidköping and on to Uddevalla. The Kinnekulletåget train stops in Källby and Hällekis. From there, you can travel to both Göteborg and to Stockholm. Bus routes go via Götene, Källby, Lundsbrunn on to Lidköping, Skara and Mariestad, where you can change to another bus or train for further travel.
